In 2010 Maham travelled to Ethiopia to help local potters improve their preparation methods and firing techniques, underpinned by a central brief to revive craft pottery production in the region.

The project was undertaken in association with Mums for Mums, a charity that helps destitute women and single mothers acquire vital skills through training programmes.

Over the course of her time in Ethiopia, Maham helped set up a well-equipped and fully-functioning pottery, which now supplies ceramics to local restaurants and a growing tourist market, while also working with local potters to develop a range of utilitarian ware for the local market.
